Home Services

Register for Home Services, a free service that provides home delivery of library materials to Richmond residents who are unable to come to the library due to mobility or visual disabilities.

 

Assistive Technology

All library locations offer assistive tools like magnifiers, large-print keyboards, and sensory support items. On our website, you can use the ReachDeck Toolbar and Google Translate for reading, speech, and translation support. Ask a staff member about assistive technology at the library to make your visit more comfortable today!

Large Print Collection

Explore the library’s Large Print Collection, which features books with text that is 14-point font or larger, designed to provide an easier, clearer, and more comfortable reading experience. 

Accessible Audiobook Collection (DAISY)

Register to access the Accessible Audiobook Collection (DAISY), a specialized collection available to customers with a perceptual (print) disability. 

Libby (OverDrive)

Enjoy ebooks and audiobooks on your tablet, smartphone or computer. Libby has a range of accessibility features such as screen reader support and adjustable text size.

Interlibrary Loan

Request books in formats like large print through Illume, a BC & Yukon Interlibrary Loan service, if RPL does not have the items you’re looking for in the format you need.

PressReader

Access thousands of international newspapers and magazines in over 60 languages. PressReader offer easy access, offline downloads, and a personalized reading experience on smartphones, tablets, and computers.  

Hoopla

Stream or download a curated selection of diverse, high-quality movies and documentaries of different genres on your own device.

Support and Resources

Explore accessible resources, including books, newspapers and magazines in accessible formats such as Braille, e-text and audio, through the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA). Visit site.

On April 8, 2024, City Council adopted the Richmond Accessibility Plan 2023–2033 to guide the advancement of accessibility in Richmond, in collaboration with the community. The 2023–2033 Richmond Accessibility Plan can be found here. 

The Richmond Accessibility Advisory Committee acts as a resource and provides advice to City Council to support the advancement of accessibility in the city, so people with disabilities are able to participate fully in all aspects of community life.
